A LITTLE ABOUT ME AND COLITIS

Hello, my name is Cris Coleman, yes there is no "h" in my name.  I have had COLITIS for fifteen years.  It has not been the most fun filled time of my life, but I have learned what I need to do - for the most part - to keep my angry guts in check.

Most people do not understand this disease, especially if they haven't lived with it or someone who has it.  COLITIS is a disease that is uncomfortable, painful, humiliating, pride robbing, sometimes disabling, and over all a real pain in the guts.

I was diagnosed when I was eighteen years old but I didn't know and didn't care at the time what it all meant.  I didn't even try to take care of my self  because I didn't know what I had.  All I knew was the Dr. gave me steroids, I hated their side effects, they made everything better and I quit taking them.  For the next ten years I used the restroom much more than others but didn't think much of it.  I was just under the assumption that I had had a gastric ulcer and the steroids fixed it.  Of course I was made fun of for having to get up during a meal at a restaurant to go to the restroom, and at work for spending soo much time in the restroom.  I have been very fortunate to have very understanding supervision at my place of employment so far.

I  met my wife about 8 years ago.  She is great and very understanding, she knows that when I am grumpy it is usually because I am feeling like crap from this god awful disease that I live with everyday.  She talked me into going to the Dr. when I started cramping and bleeding and did not know what else to do.  I was told I needed a colonoscopy, oh gawd I am a guy who isn't very "OK" with things going up that way, exit only you know...  I did not like the idea but I was also not liking the cramping and the bleeding and the living in my bathroom or any bathroom that was nearby for that matter.  They found that I had severe UC - Ulcerative Colitis - not a good thing to hear. Here is where my true journey to figure this thing out started.

Follow me through my journey and we can share stories, what meds we have tried, what has worked and not worked,  what home remedies might be helpful and other topics that might be of interest.

AGAIN THANKS FOR VISITING AND PLEASE COMMENT AND SHARE THIS

  1. Cris, Thanks for sharing your story. I too have had some serious poopie butt issues. I joke by saying that but, as you know, it is really nothing to laugh about. I was told years ago that I had IBS(Irritable bowel syndrome). I am affraid that it is now something much worse but I am too much of a chicken to investigate it too much. But I'm happy to see a blog from a real person that understands and has real live experience to share.
